Viewing full email headers
Email consists of a header and the body of the message. The header provides information on who sent the email (From: field); who the recipient was (To: field); what the subject was (Subject: field); and when it was delivered (Date: field).
The header contains more information than is normally shown. In particular the routing information is very useful in problem solving.
If you are asked to forward an email with the full headers enabled please follow the instructions below. They tell you how to turn on full headers in the email software supported by Information Services as well as Hotmail.
GroupWise
To view full headers in GroupWise Right Click on the message under the From field. Choose View. In the top window pane you will see Mime.822. Click on this and you will see the full headers.
Mail received in GroupWise will only have full headers if they have been sent to mailname@cardiff.ac.uk or have been sent from an external email address. GroupWise mail sent to other GroupWise users within Cardiff using the GroupWise address book never leave the Cardiff system and so do not have full headers.
GroupWise WebAccess
In WebAccess, open the mail message. There is an option to view mime.822 under the subject title.
