Staff and students registered on the Cardiff University computing network can access most of the University's electronic resources when working off-campus.

Accessing electronic journals, books and databases
The recommended route is via Cardiff Portal. Go to the Library page then choose LibrarySearch or the eLibrary to locate the electronic book or journal you require. To access a database, choose Databases (A-Z and MetaLib), then find the database you need on the A-Z.
Opening full text journal articles within electronic databases
Many databases to which the Library subscribes now show this button in the search results:
Click on the button to view Cardiff University's eLibrary screen:

If the Library subscribes to the journal containing the article, you will see a 'full text available via...' link. Click Go to open the full text article. If prompted, enter your Cardiff University computer username and password.
Some databases also offer Full Text buttons when Cardiff University Library has a subscription to the journal. If you have accessed the database via Cardiff Portal, these buttons will lead you directly to the full text article.
If these buttons aren't available in the database you are using, you will need to find the journal in which the article is published by accessing LibrarySearch or the eLibrary via Cardiff Portal .
Accessing full text journal articles from Google Scholar
To view the Full Text @ Cardiff links when using Google Scholar from off-campus, follow these steps:
- On the home page, click on Scholar Settings
- Select Library links and enter Cardiff University into the search box
- Select the tick boxes next to the Cardiff University items in the search results
- Click on Save.
In your search results you will now see Full Text @ Cardiff links when the Library has a subscription to the journal. Click on the link to open the eLibrary. Select Go and enter your Cardiff University username and password.
