Flare Index to Treaties
Devised and compiled by Dr Peter Clinch, the Flare Index to Treaties is a searchable database of basic information on over 1,500 of the most significant multilateral treaties from 1856 to the present, with details of where the full text of each treaty may be obtained in paper and, if available, electronic form on the Internet.

Prepared by IALS staff, these research and reference guides provide an introduction to legal research and guidance on legal sources by jurisdiction.

LawCite
LawCite is an international legal case citator produced by the Free Access to Law Movement. Focussing on common law countries LawCite can be used to locate judgments and to see what cases were cited by a case and what cases have subsequently referred to a case. LawCite will provide a link to a freely available version of a decision if one is available. If there is not a free version, LawCite will indicate a commercial service that may have a copy, for example, Westlaw UK or Lexis®Library. 

Please note that as LawCite draws its information from a more limited pool of resources than the commercial databases the information obtained using LawCite may not be as comprehensive as those you would find on Westlaw UK or Lexis®Library.

Australia

AustLII
The Australasian Legal Information Institute provides free access to Australian legal materials. There are over a million searchable documents including both primary and secondary legal materials plus a number of subject specific databases and a comprehensive index to Australian law.

ComLaw  
ComLaw (Commonwealth Law) is the legal information retrieval system run by the Australian Attorney-General's Department. The database provides access to consolidated up-to-date primary legislation and historical versions of primary legislation.

Ireland

IALS Research Guide - Ireland

Irish Legal Information Initiative
Run by University College Cork (UCC) the IRLII provides free access to Irish legal materials including Statutes, Statutory Instruments and cases.

Irish Courts Service
The official web site of the Irish Courts Service, with judgments from the Supreme Court from the year 2001; the Court of Criminal Appeal from the year 2004; and the High Court from the year 2004.

Irish Statute Book
Published by the Office of the Attorney General, the Irish Statute Book has legislation from 1922-2003, both Acts and Statutory Instruments. The Database of the Chronological Tables of the Statutes in Ireland allows users to check the current status and amendments to a piece of legislation. This includes statutes from 1922 as well as pre Act of Union statutes (1801) and English legislation.

Houses of the Oireachtais
The web site of the Houses of the Oireachtais (Parliament) includes Irish Bills and Acts from 1997-2005 and the Official Report of the Parliamentary Debates of the Houses of the Oireachtas.

Jersey Legal Information Board
The official source of legal information in Jersey including all Laws in Force, Jersey Law Reports from 1985 to 2000, Unreported Judgments from 1997 and Practice Directions of the Royal Court. You will also find the Royal Court Rules consolidated to September 2002 and the Jersey Law Review.

States of Jersey
The website of the States Assembly the legislature of Jersey. Current draft legislation of Jersey, called projets, is included in the Propositions section of the website.

Cornell legal research encyclopedia
An online resource and bibliographic research guide developed by professional law librarians at Cornell Law School. The encyclopedia provides a compilation of US and international legal resources and bibliographic references.

American Law Sources On-line
The purpose of American Law Sources On-line (ALSO!) is to provide a comprehensive compilation of links to free on-line sources of American law. This includes Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and District Court decisions, with a searchable index of Supreme Court decisions from 1990. Selected historic decisions from the Supreme Court are also provided for some cases from 1947.

Legal Information Institute
Based at Cornell Law School. Information includes all opinions of the US Supreme Court since May 1990, as well as an archive of the 300 most important historical decisions of the court.

WashLawWeb
Site maintained by Washburn University School of Law Library, providing links to different legal topics and court circuits.

Worldlii - USA page
Links to general legal US sites as well as specific areas of law such as intellectual property, competition law, maritime law etc.

BUBL link
A national information service for the higher education community, with descriptions of selected US sites.

D'Angelo law library Internet links

EISIL
The Electronic Information System for International Law links to primary and other materials across the breadth of international law, providing a "More Information" button for a brief description and entry into force date for each document.

InSITE
Current awareness service of Cornell Law Library. InSITE highlights selected law-related World Wide Web sites. The law librarians at Cornell evaluate potentially useful Web sites, select the most valuable ones, and provide commentary and subject access to them. 

United Nations Treaty Collection
The United Nations Treaty Collection is the official database of the United Nations and includes:

  • The full text of over 150,000 bilateral and multilateral treaties
  • The status of over 500 major multilateral treaties deposited with the Secretary-General of the United Nations
  • The League of Nations Treaty Series (1920-1944)

Use the United Nations Treaty Collection username and password to access the Treaty Collection.

Multi-laterals project
This ongoing project is designed to make available the texts of international multilateral treaties, organised by subject.

World Legal Information Institute

Global Legal Information Network (GLIN)
GLIN maintains and provides a database of laws, regulations, and other legal sources. The documents are contributed by the governments of the member nations. There are full texts of the documents in the official language of the country of origin with summaries or abstracts in English.

GlobaLex
Published by the Hauser Global Law School Program at New York University School of Law, GlobaLex includes guides and articles dedicated to international and foreign law research.

World Legal Information Institute
Worldlii is a free, independent and non-profit global legal research facility. There are databases of case-law, legislation, treaties, law reform reports, law journals, and other materials. Also included are links to over 15,000 law-related web sites in every country in the world.

DIAL
Development of the Internet for Asian Law is a starting point to legal information on the Internet.
