Some databases require your Cardiff University network username and password for off-campus access. These databases are available for all staff and students of Cardiff University but because of licensing restrictions they are not available to external members and visitors.

Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts (ASSIA)
Applied Social Sciences Index and Abstracts provides references and summaries of articles covering:
- social services
- social work
It is updated daily and coverage is from 1987. ASSIA currently contains over 375,000 records from over 500 journals published in 16 different countries, including the UK and US.

British Humanities Index (BHI)
Contains references relating to the humanities from articles in over 200 British journals and major newspapers from 1962 onwards. Subjects include:
- the arts
- current affairs

Provides full bibliographic details and brief descriptive summaries of recent books and articles published in areas such as:
- mass communication
- interpersonal communication
- new communication technologies

International Bibliography of the Social Sciences
Indexes material on economics, sociology, politics and anthropology. Produced by the London School of Economics and Political Science, IBSS includes over 2.5 million references to journal articles, books, reviews and selected chapters dating back to 1951

An archive of electronic journals which currently provides access to more than 200 scholarly titles in over 20 disciplines in the Arts and Sciences. Journals are archived, where possible, back to the first issue, though the most recent years are excluded.
The whole database can be searched by keyword and author, and the articles retrieved can be downloaded and printed.
The Modern Language Association International Bibliography (MLAIB) indexes scholarly publications on literature, language, linguistics, and folklore in over 4,000 journals and series as well as in monographs, multi-author works and dissertations. MLAIB dates back to 1925.

A comprehensive newspaper database, updated daily, providing full text access to all UK national newspapers, plus regional newspapers, international news providers (including The International Herald Tribune, The New Yorker, USA Today, India Today and the Japan Times) and a number of trade journals and magazines. Most titles have a twenty year archive. UK newspaper titles include:

This service provides access to the Web of Science databases:
- Arts & Humanities Citation Index
- Social Science Citation Index
- Science Citation Index
Covers over 8,500 scholarly research journals, including author abstracts, from 1981 to the present. Searchable by keyword or by works that have been cited by other publications.
Also includes the ISI Journal Citation Reports for the Sciences and Social Sciences. To access the Reports, login to Web of Science and select the ISI Journal Citation Reports option from the home page. These provide easy access to data so scholarly journals can be compared. Categories include highest impact and most frequently cited journals.
Contains contents information from approximately 20,000 current journals and 16,000 conference proceedings published every year, across all academic disciplines. Covers the years from 1993 to the present. Updated daily.
