Finding journal and news articles
To search for articles from a range of journals you should do a keyword search using the electronic databases. The main databases you will need are:
ABI Inform/Proquest
Full text of business-related articles from approximately 1,800 journals.
EBSCO Business Source Premier
Full text of articles from approximately 3,600 business journals.
IngentaConnect
Access to electronic journals from a range of publishers, including a number of business journals.
JSTOR
Includes business, economics and finance journals, some of which date back to the 1800s.
Nexis UK
A comprehensive newspaper database which is updated daily. Provides full text access to all United Kingdom national newspapers, plus regional newspapers, international news providers and a number of trade journals and magazines. Also includes company data and annual reports.
ScienceDirect
A multidisciplinary database with some business journals.

Finding references
Some information sources called abstracts or indexes will only provide a summary or bibliographical details of an article. You will then need to look them up on the Voyager library catalogue for printed copies or to access the electronic full-text.

Web of Knowledge
A multi-disciplinary database with brief details of articles from over 8500 journals.
Business Statistics and financial information
Datastream
Datastream is an online database of statistics on companies, financial markets and economics. This database can only be accessed in the Aberconway library, on two dedicated computer terminals on the upper floor of the library.
Thomson One Banker
Thomson One Banker provides access to global financial data including company accounts, scanned filings and annual reports, shareholder data, mergers and acquisitions, equities, bonds, syndicated loans and earnings estimates. Some basic economic data is also included.
Statistics web sites
Eurostat
Key indicators from the European Union on economy, finance, trade, industry and services.
International Labour Organisation Databases
Provides a source of information on employment including articles, statistics, international labour standards and national laws.
MIMAS
Manchester Information and Associated Services includes the 1991 GB Census of Population statistics and data from other surveys such as the General Household Survey, and some econometric time series data from the IMF and OECD. Free use for academic purposes.
Nomis
Nomis gives you access to the most up-to-date and detailed UK labour market data produced from official sources. Nomis is a free service provided by National Statistics.
Office for National Statistics (ONS)
Database contains online statistics from government statistical publications such as Consumer Trends, Economic Trends, Regional Trends, Social Trends and Labour Market Trends.
UK Data Archive
The Economic and Social Research Council Data Archive at the University of Essex houses a collection of accessible computer-readable data in the social sciences and humanities.
UK Trade Info
Data provided by H.M. Customs and Excise features UK trade in imports and exports.
World Bank
Search for economic and social data by topic or county. Data is available in PDF format.
Printed Statistics
The Aberconway library has a range of current and historical statistics from the UK produced by the ONS. There are also international statistics provided by organisations such as the IMF, OECD and UN. Statistics are shelved in the reference collection, on the upper floor of the library.

From the European Commission, this site is aimed at exporters.
efinancial news
News for securities, fund management and investment banking. Updated daily.

An Internet service with links to web sites and research papers.
Intute: Economics
Academic subject gateway with links to various web sites.
National Bureau of Economic Research
Provides access to NBER projects and online data, including the Penn World Data tables ( economic data on countries worldwide 1950-1992 ). There are extensive historical datasets primarily covering the USA but with some coverage of the UK, France and Germany.
WebEc
Subject gateway with web sites in economics.

Information on publications and products, plus some datasets.
