Finding journal and newspaper articles
To search for articles from a range of journals you should do a keyword search using the electronic databases. The main databases you will need are:
ABI Inform/Proquest
Full text of business-related articles from approximately 1,800 journals.
EBSCO Business Source Premier Full text of articles from approximately 3,600 business journals.
Nexis UK
A comprehensive newspaper database which is updated daily. Provides full text access to all United Kingdom national newspapers, plus regional newspapers, international news providers and a number of trade journals and magazines. Also includes company data and annual reports.

Financial information
Bankscope
Provides detailed financial information, ratings, ownership information and news articles for over 10,000 banks worldwide. Up to 8 years of information is included for each bank.
Datastream
Datastream is an online database of statistics on companies, financial markets and economics. Much of the data accessed can be downloaded into statistical software programmes. Access is only in Aberconway Library, and appointments to use datastream can be made at the enquiry desk.
FAME
The web version of FAME has data on approximately 2.7 million UK companies. This version may be particularly relevant if you are researching small or medium sized companies. Further information such as trade description, directors names, subsidiaries is available.
Osiris
Osiris is a comprehensive database of listed companies, banks and insurance companies around the world. It contains specific report formats for companies, banks and insurance companies and also has reports that reflect accounting procedures in the major world regions.
Thomson One Banker
Thomson One Banker provides access to global financial data including company accounts, scanned filings and annual reports, shareholder data, mergers and acquisitions, equities, bonds, syndicated loans and earnings estimates. Some basic economic data is also included.
Annual Reports
The Aberconway Library holds up to 10 years printed annual reports for:
- The top 100 UK companies
- The top 50 European companies
- The top 50 USA companies
- The top 50 Japanese companies
Many of the holdings can be checked on the library catalogue. An up-to-date printed list is available in the annual reports section in Aberconway Library. Annual reports can often be found online at a company's web site or through the following sources.

A catalogue of printed annual reports held in libraries around the country.
Company and charity directories
The Aberconway Library has a range of printed company directories such as Kompass, and Dun and Bradstreet Directories.
Charity Commission
The organisation that regulates charities in England and Wales. The web site has a register of charities.
Companies House
Basic information on Limited companies and up-to-the-minute information on the status of a company.
Thomson Local
Over 2 million UK businesses searchable by name, type and location.
Yell: Electronic Yellow Pages
Search the Yellow Pages by business type and location.
International
Europages
A European business directory with the facility to search by name, product or services, or business sector.
Infobel
Contains directories for more than 184 countries.
Yahoo
Links to directories as well as various other business related information.
Market reports
GMID
Provides key business intelligence on countries, markets and companies. More than 330 consumer products in 52 countries are researched to produce value market sizes and forecasts to 2012. Also includes:
- Country data, which covers demographic, economic and background marketing statistics for 209 countries worldwide

Key Note
Full text market reports covering a range of United Kingdom products and market sectors. Updated weekly, there are currently over 300 titles in the database. Printed copies of the reports are also available in the Aberconway Library.
Mintel
Provides access to a wide range of consumer related market research reports. Printed copies of the reports up to 2009 are also available in the Aberconway Library .
Share prices
American Stock Exchange
Lists the companies traded at the exchange by name and stock symbol. Provides a summary of trading data and links to SEC filings, news and web sites of companies.
Euronext
Euronext is produced by the merger of the exchanges of Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris. Links to the individual sites are available.
Global Investor Glossary
The leading online reference for financial and investment terms.
Hemscott - UK Equities
Financial information on publicly-traded British companies including excerpts from annual reports.
World Federation of Exchanges
A-Z directory of exchanges. The site includes Federation publications.
London Stock Exchange
The London Stock Exchange's Internet service, giving private investors easy access to company news, share prices for Stock Exchange companies. The information is available free of charge, subject to a 15 minute delay.
Tokyo Stock Exchange
Links to web sites of listed companies, by sector. Features a daily market report.
Information gateways and web sites
AIM (Alternative Investment Market)
London Stock Exchange web site that lists smaller companies who are not on the main market.
Bloomberg
Financial and market news.
Corporate Information
Excellent resource for news, company financials, stock exchanges, business directories etc from around the world.
UK Company News
UK company addresses, web sites and product news.
EDGAR
Details of US company accounts filed electronically with the US Securities and Exchange Commission as required by law.
