Finding journal and newspaper articles
To search for articles from a range of journals you should do a keyword search using the electronic databases. The main databases you will need are:
ABI Inform/Proquest
Full text of business-related articles from approximately 1,800 journals.
EBSCO Business Source Premier
Full text of articles from approximately 3,600 business journals.
IngentaConnect
The contents of around 740 academic and trade journals with full text for those subscribed to by Cardiff University.
Lexis-Nexis Executive
A comprehensive newspaper database which is updated daily. Provides full text access to all United Kingdom national newspapers, plus regional newspapers, international news providers and a number of trade journals and magazines. Also includes company data and annual reports.
ScienceDirect
A multidisciplinary database with some business journals.

Finding references
Some information sources called abstracts or indexes will only provide a summary or bibliographical details of an article. You will then need to look up the availability of the full text on the Voyager library catalogue.

Web of Science Social Science Citation Index
An electronic database with brief details of articles from over 4500 journals. You will need to get an Athens username and password from the Aberconway Guest Library to use this database.
Market Reports
These electronic databases are also available in printed format in the Aberconway Guest Library.
Key Note
Full text market reports covering a range of United Kingdom products and market sectors. Updated weekly, there are currently over 300 titles in the database.
Mintel
Access to a wide range of consumer related market research reports.
GMID
Provides key business intelligence on countries, markets and companies. More than 330 consumer products in 52 countries are researched to produce value market sizes and forecasts to 2012. Also includes:
- Country data, which covers demographic, economic and background marketing statistics for 209 countries worldwide

Business Statistics
The Aberconway Guest Library holds a range of printed current and historical statistical publications published by the UK and other governments and international organisations. The collection is arranged alphabetically. Consult the printed subject index to find statistical information on particular topics. The following university databases are also available.
Datastream
Datastream is an online database of statistics on companies, financial markets and economics. This database can only be accessed in the Aberconway Guest Library.
SourceOECD
The online library of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. Includes:
- 20 thematic collections, containing all of the OECD's books and reports
- 24 journals
- Reference titles
- Statistical databases
TimeWeb Explorer
This allows users to explore the OECD Main Economic Indicators data. This contains thousands of comparative statistics for the major economies of the world with most of the series starting in 1960. Data can be subsetted, plotted and downloaded via an intuitive windows interface.

Eurostat
Key indicators from the European Union on economy, finance, trade, industry and services.
MIMAS
Manchester Information and Associated Services includes the 1991 GB Census of Population statistics and data from other surveys such as the General Household Survey, and some econometric time series data from the IMF and OECD. Free use for academic purposes.
Nomis
Nomis gives you access to the most up-to-date and detailed labour market data produced from official sources. Nomis is a free service provided by National Statistics.
Office for National Statistics(ONS)
Statbase contains online statistics from government statistical publications such as Consumer Trends, Economic Trends, Regional Trends, Social Trends and Labour Market Trends.
UK Data Archive
The Economic and Social Research Council Data Archive at the University of Essex houses a collection of accessible computer-readable data in the social sciences and humanities.
UK Trade Info
Data provided by H.M. Customs and Excise features UK trade in imports and exports.
World Bank
Search for economic and social data by topic or county. Data is available in PDF format.
