Finding journal and newspaper articles

To search for articles from a range of journals you should do a keyword search using the electronic databases. The main databases you will need are:

ABI Inform/Proquest
Full text of business-related articles from approximately 1,800 journals.

EBSCO Business Source Premier
Full text of articles from approximately 3,600 business journals.

Nexis UK
A comprehensive newspaper database which is updated daily. Provides full text access to all United Kingdom national newspapers, plus regional newspapers, international news providers and a number of trade journals and magazines. Also includes company data and annual reports.

Motor Industry of Great Britain - World Automotive Statistics

Compiled by the SMMT, this annual publication presents vehicle export and import figures for the UK and surveys of selected producing countries. A useful "Miscellaneous information" section includes data on fuel taxation, fuel consumption and the percentage of households with the use of a car. Located in the Statistics collection.


Ward's Automotive Yearbook

Annual publication contains global industry statistics covering vehicle production, registration, marketing and sales. Located in the Statistics collection.


Ward's Worldwide Automotive Decade of Data

Provides historical statistical data on trends in world vehicle production between 1984 and 1993. Located in the Statistics collection.

 

Welsh Transport Statistics

Published annually by the National Assembly for Wales. New vehicle registrations, road traffic volume and a national travel survey are included. Located in the Statistics collection.

Institute of Operations Management
Professional body for those involved in production and operations management in manufacturing and service industries.

Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI)
Professional body for those employed in the automotive industry and associated sectors. As awarding body for motor industry qualifications the web site includes details of its education programme and career development information.

International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA)
This body represents the industry at an international level with inter-governmental agencies such as the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation.

Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association
 This non-profit organisation comprises thirteen Japanese manufacturers of cars, buses, trucks and motorcycles. Their web site provides links to members' web sites and commentary on the Japanese automotive industry.
