Electronic journals

Over 21,000 online journals and 250,000 electronic books are accessible from your desktop. Many offer full text access to journal articles which you can view onscreen or print out, when either on- or off-campus.

To find electronic journals or electronic books, visit our eLibrary. Alternatively, you can check the availability of printed and electronic books and journals using the Voyager library catalogue.

Databases

Databases help you to find relevant materials to support your study and research. A database may also give access to resources such as journal articles, newspaper articles, conference proceedings, company accounts, images, maps or original historical documents.

Each library offers training in using subject databases. Please ask in your subject library for details.

Accessing electronic journals and databases off-campus

Increasingly, many databases and electronic journals can be accessed from anywhere in the world using your Cardiff University login. Ask at your University library if you need help.

NHS Wales e-library for health

The NHS Wales e-library for health provides NHS staff in Wales with a wide range of resources, including electronic journals and books, databases and medicines information. The e-library is available through the NHS Wales Internet site and through the NHS Wales Intranet at each NHS networked site.

At work NHS staff can access the NHS Wales e-library via the NHS Intranet from the Health Library, Brian Cooke Dental Library, Archie Cochrane Library (Llandough), and the Cancer Research Wales Library. However, NHS staff will need their own Health Board/Trust username and password to access the Intranet.

Home access to the NHS Wales e-library requires an Athens username and password. NHS staff can register for an Athens username and password form a work-based computer connected to the NHS Intranet. Alternatively, please contact the Archie Cochrane Library, Llandough, tel. 029 2071 5497, email cochraneliby@cardiff.ac.uk (Cardiff and Vale University Health Board employees), or the Cancer Research Wales Library, tel. 029 2031 6291, email crwlibrary@wales.nhs.uk (Velindre NHS Trust employees).
