In September, Information Services launched Cardiff Portal, the newly enhanced and developed gateway enabling users to access their online University services.
Cardiff Portal enables users to access their University email account, networked filestore, Learning Central, electronic resources and journals, and other online services from anywhere and at any time via a web browser. The portal features frequently updated targeted content delivered to the individual user, so that users see the news, announcements, and campaigns that are relevant to their role within the University.
The Portal team is currently engaging with the University community over the coming months to develop content and functionality, and to help Schools and Directorates utilise the increased potential of this new development.
During the first semester (September – December 2010), Cardiff Portal received:
- Over 2.1 million visits
- Almost five million page views
- The highest number of page views in a single day was almost 86,000 on Tuesday 19th October
- Users have accessed Cardiff Portal from 144 countries
90% of the use of Cardiff Portal comes from students - Undergraduates, Taught and Research Postgraduates - and 10% from members of staff, generally reflecting the demographic make-up of the University community.
