Our approach

SPARK approach
SPARK's researchers will work with external partners to solve societal problems.

Our way of working will mark out Cardiff University’s approach to the societal challenges of our time.

The Social Science Research Park (SPARK) is more than just a unique physical space. It’s a facilitator of collaboration to conduct research that addresses society’s major challenges.

Bringing interdisciplinary groups together, not just under one roof but under the umbrella of SPARK-style activity, allows us to innovate in the way we work together as well as in the solutions we develop and explore.

This facility gives the University a wonderful opportunity to be a global leader in applied social science. Co-locating centres of research excellence alongside the private, public and third sectors will generate ideas that can be trialled and evaluated quickly and rigorously.

Beyond that, high-quality collaborations with industry, the public and third sectors will enable our students to think about their futures, encourage them to imagine what can be achieved and offer them support to create their own opportunities and explore their entrepreneurial spirits.

New insights and new knowledge will be born out of new partnerships - a distinctive way of working we hope will shape the future of social science research.
