HUMANITIES & SOCIAL STUDIES SCHOOL ENROLMENT 2013 - YEAR ONE
This information is for students taking degrees in the six Humanities & Social Studies Schools, that is the Schools of
English, Communication & Philosophy [ENCAP]
European Languages, Translation and Politics [EUROP]
History, Archaeology & Religion [SHARE]
Journalism, Media & Cultural Studies [JOMEC]
Music (except BMus) [MUSIC]
Welsh [WELSH]
YEAR ONE STUDENTS
There are different regulations for the different degrees, but most first year BA students have to take three subjects, with each subject worth 40 credits. These will be your Single Honours subject and two Additional Subjects, or your two Joint Honours subjects and one Additional Subject. BA students may not choose separate, free-standing, individual modules. For BScEcon degrees, you still take 120 credits but by choosing modules.
You cannot change your degree programme without the prior permission of the school(s) involved.
THE ENROLMENT PROCESS
Before you arrive, you need to look at the Humanities & Social Studies Year One Enrolment & Subject Guide which details all the subjects available to take in your first year. You need to select your Additional Subject(s) from those listed in the Guide.
You should download the Additional Subject Enrolment Proforma to bring with you to enrolment events on 24 & 25 September.

DO NOT SELECT YOUR MODULES UNTIL SCHOOL ENROLMENT IS COMPLETED ON 25 SEPTEMBER. YOUR HONOURS SUBJECT(S) WILL ALREADY BE LISTED ON SIMS FOR YOU. (SIMS is the Student Information Management System where all your records are kept.)
On Tuesday 24 September you will be advised by your personal tutor(s) on your choice of Additional Subject(s). Single Honours students will see their tutor in the morning; Joint Honours students see both their tutors in the afternoon. (NB there will be Welcome Talks in some schools in the morning.)
On Wednesday 25 September you must sign up for the required modules for your Additional Subject(s) in the morning and for your Honours Subject(s) in the afternoon. After these sessions, when you log on to enrol on your modules on-line, the compulsory modules for your Honours subject(s) will appear automatically on the screen and the modules for your additional subject(s) must be added to bring your total credits to 120.
On Friday 27 September there will be Introductory Subject Talks (see list in the Guide). These will be talks about the subjects which you have enrolled for. Please note some schools will hold their Talk earlier in the week - see Introductory Talks in the Guide
