Claims for compensation arising from references given by members of University staff are on the increase. Inaccurate references, if shown to be defamatory or negligent, can lead to claims for substantial damages. Participants will explore the legal implications governing references, and will be advised of the principles which must be adhered to in respect of the provision of references.
