Data Protection Issues: Staff & Student Records

This course covers the University's legal obligations in respect of the Data Protection Act and will focus on the Data Protection principles; what personal data members of staff are entitled to have access to and what managers can do with staff personal data; consideration of disclosures to colleagues and outside authorities and individuals; the common law duty of confidence; and dealing with formal Subject Access Requests and the rights of the Data Subject.

The course is recommended for staff who require a more in-depth practical knowledge of Data Protection in particular those who are responsible for managing personal data and its use such as school based administrators, supervisors and managers and those who regularly work with data in COMPEL and SIMS.
