How to Book
To apply to attend a Staff Development Programme event:
All course booking requests must be submitted via the Core Portal*, the University's self-service system. You can log into the Portal using your network username and password at:
You can find course descriptions, search for events and dates and submit a training request via the Portal.
All training requests must be approved by your line manager (via the Portal). They will need to check the availability of budget funds (if appropriate) before they approve the training request.
Please note you will need to inform your line manager of your training request so that they can authorise it in the Core Portal. No automated email will be sent notifying them of pending training requests.
Once your training request has been approved you will receive an email confirming you have a place on an event. 7 days before the event is due to run, you will receive an email confirming final arrangements.
If you cannot find the course you are looking for, please contact us, as we update courses and add new ones to the programme regularly.

We no longer accept purchase orders as payment for course fees, so please do not send one. The Staff Development Team will arrange monthly payment of fees by IDT. For more information about this please contact us.
You can cancel your place on a training event via the Core Portal, up to 7 days before the event is due to run. If you wish to cancel less than 7 days before an event, please contact the Staff Development team. Fees will be charged where a course is cancelled less than 7 days in advance.
It may be appropriate for a group of staff within a College/School/Directorate to work together on particular issues. You may be interested in adapting one of the courses listed in the Staff Development Programme, or you may require a specific training activity designed to meet the needs of your College/School/Directorate. We would be pleased to help with such enquiries, and, similarly, can offer help or support in arranging College/School/ Directorate ‘away days’.
