Under-represented Groups

We offer here links to training opportunities and support staff groups who are currently in a minority in terms of representation in leadership positions in the University. Examples could be: women, disabled, black and minority ethnic, or gay, lesbian or bisexual staff.

This list is only a guideline. We are happy to be notified about and to include any other leadership or management courses, seminars, programmes or support that staff have found useful.


Clore Leadership Programme

The programme is an initiative of the Clore Duffield Foundation, and their aim is to help to train and develop a new generation of leaders for the cultural sector here in the UK. Each year they assist a number of Clore Fellows to undertake an individual programme of learning, work, research, training, and secondment, designed to develop their leadership skills and experience. They  also aim to report more widely on their work, to disseminate the lessons they learn, and to speak out more generally as advocates for cultural leadership and excellence.


MentorSet

A National Mentoring Scheme for Women in Science, Engineering and Technology.

MentorSET is a successful mentoring scheme started in 2002 to help women working in SET (Science, Engineering and Technology). They provide independent mentors who understand the challenges faced and who can provide support and advice.

MentorSet have now created approximately 280 mentoring pairs spread across the UK and encompassing many different careers. Feedback shows that their participants are benefiting enormously and that MentorSET is playing a useful part in helping women in SET in the UK.

Mentees must be a member of (or willing to join) one of the above groups but there is no restictions for mentors. WES and a number of the other groups are easy and cheap to join. They are always looking for women who are interested in becoming mentees and family-friendly people who are willing to be mentors. If you are a women working in SET (or wishing to return to a career in SET), why not join and find out how mentoring can help you.


Stonewall Leadership Programme

The Stonewall Leadership Programme is designed to equip future lesbian and gay leaders with the tools they need to get ahead in their career and contribute to their organisation.
