Technical and Research Skills - Packages

Qualitative Analysis Software (Nvivo and Atlas.ti)

1½ days and 2 days (optional)

This course of workshops is aimed at researchers who have an understanding of the principles of qualitative analysis and wish to learn how Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software (CAQDAS) packages may be useful to their projects. The first half-day will provide a basic introduction to CAQDAS outlining the key features of current data analysis software. This is followed by one full day on NVivo 10, and a further day consisting of a morning on Atlas.ti 6 and an afternoon in which you can choose supervised exercises on advanced features of either package, or familiarisation with Atlas.ti 7. The course is designed to be attended as a whole, but you may, according to your needs and existing abilities, choose to attend on any individual day. You are encouraged to bring your own data, but this is not obligatory as sample data will also be used.

Although the course is designed to be taken as a whole (Introduction> NVivo> Atlas.ti> Follow-on), attendees are free to book individual sessions depending on their needs and levels of experience. We also encourage participants to bring their own data to work with, although sample data will also be provided.
