About this course
CVs & Job Applications is a half day workshop intended to assist staff with their writing of job applications including CVs, application forms  and personal statements. It will cover both applications for academic and wider option jobs.

Who Should Take This Course?
This course should prove to be of particular interest to those who:

  • Are current members of Academic staff of Research Only contracts
  • Are interested in developing their CV and written job application skills

Outline of Content
How do you present yourself as employable, ready, willing and extremely capable of doing the job you want? This workshop analyses the job application essentials including CVs, on line Application Forms, Personal statements and how they can be combined, to make effective job applications. Using current examples it will deal with identifying the evidence of skills, knowledge and experience needed to maximise employer appeal. The style will be interactive and the groups will review the alternative formats of CV, for both academic and wider options.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, you should be better able to:

  • Appreciate the nature and purpose of a CV in the employment marketplace
  • Review a range of CV formats and use as appropriate
  • Identify and present the skills, knowledge and experience you can give evidence for
  • Understand the essentials of effective job application form completion
  • Draw together a complete job application “package” with increased confidence.

Entry Requirements
Places on this workshop are open to staff members on a Research only contract, other staff groups are welcome to apply for a place and will be entered onto a reserve list, in the event of a place becoming vacant a week prior to the session commencing staff members will be offered a place.
