Applying for Academic Jobs

2.5 hours

This workshop will highlight the key areas you need to think about when applying for research positions and lectureships, including putting together your application and preparing for interview. A Head of School and an advisor from Human Resources will provide the ‘insider view’ on how jobs are created; the recruitment process; the review of applications and shortlisting of candidates; the usual format of academic interviews; and what happens once the interview has taken place.

The workshop will offer suggestions on:

  • how to compose an appropriate letter of application;
  • how to fine tune your CV to match the job;
  • how to prepare yourself for the interview event;
  • how to respond appropriately at the interview.
