Recognition of Service (June 2008)
Cardiff University would like to congratulate all members of staff achieving either twenty-five or forty years continuous service between January 2006 and June 2008.
Following a review of the traditional Long Service Awards as a result of the age discrimination legislation the University decided to continue to recognise those staff achieving either twenty-five or forty years continuous service. The first of the new style Recognition of Service events was held on Monday 9 June 2008 as part of the Positive Working Environment initiative.
Over one hundred members of staff being recognised were invited to attend a special celebratory lunch with invitations also being extended to personal guests. Presentations were made by Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Peter Blood, Pro Vice Chancellor for Staff Professor Terry Threadgold and Director of Human Resources Mrs Jayne Dowden. Also present to support their staff were many other members of senior management including Administrative Directors and Heads of Academic Schools.
On arrival guests were entertained by harpist Amanda Whitting and given a brochure containing messages of appreciation from senior management and illustrating how Cardiff has changed over the years. In reference to some of the University's major strategic milestones, Professor Peter Blood emphasised his appreciation of the ability of staff to cope with and provide continuity through periods of change. Professor Terry Threadgold acknowledged those recently retired (also invited to the event), shortly due to retire and those with potentially many more years service remaining. Mrs Jayne Dowden also expressed her privilege in being able to recognise those staff who contributed to the success of the University during her time as a student at Cardiff and who continue to do so today.
All awardees were presented with a certificate, a card of congratulations and one of three gift options.
