"The Network is for members of staff who are disabled, who have long-term physical or mental health impairments, or who have personal experience of disability issues.
Its aims are to:
- provide a mutually supportive environment for sharing workplace experiences and concerns;
- increase understanding of disability and disability rights within the University community;
- offer a channel through which people can raise concerns relating to disability and employment at Cardiff University;
- participate in reviewing the implementation of University provision in the area of disability;
- propose appropriate procedures and protocols promoting disability equality within the University.
Meetings are arranged by the Chair, who also facilitates the membership’s shared responsibility for engagement in reviews, proposals, consultations and response to enquires. This ensures representation in relation to a range of impairments and, in the spirit of 'nothing about us without us', aims to achieve the meaningful, collaborative and sustained involvement of disabled people, as core to the Disability Equality Duty. We work to the social model of disability and support this principle being adopted as the basis for the University's Disability Equality Scheme."
