Current GOC Volunteering Projects

Czech Republic

  • Partner Organisation: UNA Exchange
  • Local Organisation: Eco Centre and the Region of Living Waters, Czech Republic
  • Dates: 13/07/2015 – 16/08/2015
  • This project is for 5 volunteers and will cost £559 + flights
  • GOC Bursary Available: £500

Volunteers will get the chance to take part in two projects in Czech Republic over four weeks.

Both projects are environmental/renovation projects and work consists of garden, heritage and protection work.

The first project will take place in Horni Marsov in the Krkonose and the second will take place in the Carlsbad region, Western Bohemia. Horni Marsov has about 1000 inhabitants in the Krkonose Mountains, Eastern Bohemia. It is a mountainous area with a cold climate and beautiful nature. Western Bohemia is home to lots of beautiful cultural and natural sights and is world famous for its spas and hot springs. In between the two projects there will be a few days for sightseeing/tourist activities. In addition to the natural beauty of the area, another attractive point about this project is its close proximity to the UK. This means that travel costs will be reasonable.

  • Partner Organisation: UNA Exchange
  • Local Organisation: Alternative Life Association, Antalya, Turkey
  • Dates: 4 weeks, July 2015
  • This project is for 8-10 volunteers and will cost £550 + flights

Alternative Life Association works for the social integration of people with disabilities. The organisation has recently built a multi purpose venue in a village near Kas, Antalya in the south-west of Turkey.  Kas is one of the most popular coasts in southern Turkey and our facility is 11 km away from the Kas town centre.

In this venue people with disabilities who are excluded from mainstream education will have access to education in various fields. İf you are interested in working in education, working with people with disabilities or in social integration, this is the project for you.

What can you do?

There are a variety of things to be done at the centre and volunteers can choose what part of the centre they would like to get involved with. There are opportunities to help run workshops, organise events or help with the general upkeep and maintenance of the centre including administration, cooking and manual work.

Although a guest house and dormitories are avaliable, volunteers might be asked to stay in tents when necessary. Sleeping bags, mats and tents will be supplied but those volunteers who prefer to bring their own are welcome. Breakfast, dinner and lunch will be prepared and served at the facility.

Turkish classes can be arranged for volunteers, upon request.
