Check passport and visa requirements
Remember to check your passport and ensure that there is sufficient time left on your passport to enter the country to which you are travelling. The required minimum time left is usually 6 months however this can vary from country to country. Further information on applying for British passports can be found at www.direct.gov.uk
Information on visas required for various countries can be found at the Foreign and Commonwealth website, www.fco.gov.uk. As well as providing information on entry requirements this website also provides useful information on local laws and customs, health and safety, up to date travel warnings as well as details of embassy and consulate assistance.
Your international programme provider should detail comprehensive advice on obtaining a visa on their website.
You will also need to ensure that you have sufficient time to apply for any visas that are required for the country that you are visiting. In particular, if you not a British citizen, you may find that it will take additional time for you to obtain the correct authorisation for international travel.
Once you confirm your travel dates with us we will send off your application for the University's Travel Insurance Policy.
This provides comprehensive travel insurance for the duration of your study programme. If you are arriving early or staying after your programme for travel, internship etc you must arrange for your own travel insurance.

Vaccinations, health and wellbeing
You will need to ensure that you have all vaccinations essential for your destination. You should book an appointment with your GP to discuss this at least 8 weeks prior to travel. Useful information about health abroad can be found: http://www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/home.aspx
Students who are currently seeing a GP or specialist service for any physical or mental health issues should speak to them before their departure to ensure that they are well enough to go and make appropriate plans re medication, discuss support and strategies for coping. You may like to discuss any health or wellbeing concerns in confidence with a member of the Student Support Centre. Call 02920 874 844 to arrange an appointment.
