Teaching mobility, staff training and organisation of mobility
The Erasmus+ Programme is the European Union's flagship educational exchange programme for higher education students, teachers and institutions. It was introduced with the aim of increasing mobility within Europe.
The Erasmus+ programme is administered from the Erasmus+ Office within Global Opportunity Centre and in addition to providing grants for students, provides additional funding for staff travel to European partner institutions.
There are three categories of funding available to staff:
Organisation of mobility (OM)
Organisation of Mobility is a scheme which provides an allocation of financial support as part of the Erasmus+ programme.
The budget is intended for activities which relate to the promotion of the Erasmus+ scheme and provides provision for staff to participate in trips to monitor students currently studying/working abroad through the Erasmus+ Programme (pastoral visits).
Activities covered by the Organisation of Mobility include:
- Preparation, monitoring and evaluation of student and staff mobility
- Visits to potential partner institutions
Other activities relating to Organisation of Mobility will be considered by the Erasmus+ Office.
Teaching Mobility (TM)
Teaching Mobility gives university teachers the opportunity to spend teaching periods abroad through the Erasmus+ programme.
Teaching Mobility is a scheme which provides an allocation of financial support as part of the Erasmus+ programme and encourages short teaching visits by University staff so that they may contribute to the curriculum of partner institutions.
The duration of activity can be from 2 days to 2 months, excluding travel time. In all cases, a teaching activity has to comprise of a minimum of 8 hours of teaching per week (or any lower period of stay).
Teaching Mobility is divided into incoming and outgoing mobility and the exchange numbers are previously determined by an inter-institutional agreement.
Staff Training Mobility (ST)
Staff Mobility gives members of staff (including teaching and non-teaching) the opportunity to spend a short period abroad through the Erasmus+ programme.
Staff mobility is a scheme which provides an allocation of financial support as part of the Erasmus+ programme and encourages short visits by University staff so they may attend training events abroad (excluding conferences), learn by transfer of knowledge, acquire practical skills (job shadowing/observational training) at a partner HEI, or at another relevant organisation.
Staff mobility is divided into incoming and outgoing mobility. The exchange numbers are previously determined by an inter-institutional agreement.

Applying and allocation of an Erasmus grant
The deadline for applications for funding is the 31 August each year. Applications made after this deadline will be considered depending on availability of funds.
For all Erasmus+ activity, the amount of grant allocated to staff will be in Euros and will represent the maximum amount of grant money available.
Funds will initially be met by the School/department and then reimbursed by the Erasmus+ Office. Any expenses above the amount allocated by Erasmus+ should be met by the School.
