Cardiff University Chaplaincy is an ecumenical team of three covenanted denominations: Anglican, Catholic and Methodist. It is a campus based chaplaincy which works with all members of the university, irrespective of their religious denomination. The University has a number of restaurants, coffee shops and cyber cafes, a list of which can be found on the website. Cardiff University is proud to have achieved Fairtrade status and Fairtrade products are available in all of the catering outlets. A selection of recipes from award winning Chefs are available on the website, and the Chefs are often onhand to provide more details on the options available and assist with any dietary requirements. The University has a Day Care centre, which provides care for 64 children aged between 10 weeks and 5 years for Cardiff University staff and students. For further information, please visit the Day Care Centre at 43-45 Park Place, or visit the Day Care Centre webpages.
The University runs two schemes for parents to pay for their day care fees and to receive tax and National Insurance relief on their payments. The first is for children attending the Day Care centre above and is a Salary Sacrifice scheme whereby all the fee payments can qualify for tax and National Insurance relief. The second is a Childcare Voucher Scheme for children using nurseries and childcare minders outside the University and allows parents to exchange part of their salary for childcare vouchers which are exempt from tax and National Insurance contributions. Childcare vouchers can be used on a wide range of childcare provision and cover children up to sixteen years of age.

The University’s high speed network delivers 24/7 access to the latest software from any networked computer on campus, or from anywhere in the world via our remote access service. Whether you want to get help with IT, access your emails, rent a laptop or enhance your skills by booking onto a training course, INSRV’s website will be able to give you the information you need.
Under Health and Safety legislation, Cardiff University (the employer) is required to provide members of staff who are “users” of display screen equipment (DSE) with an eye and eyesight test. Users of DSE should also receive ongoing regular re-testing every 2 years, or sooner when recommended by an Optometrist.
Eyesight tests should be carried out by the School of Optometry, using a TRF (internal transfer) which can be obtained from the School/Division Administrator. Approval for eye and eyesight tests must be obtained in advance from either the Head of School or Directorate, or other appropriate authorised person.
With effect from January 1st 2009, Cardiff University will contribute a maximum of £50 towards the cost of corrective appliances (eg spectacles/contact lenses), if they are required for use specifically with DSE at work. In general, if spectacles and lenses worn by the DSE User are required for both general use and DSE use, a contribution cannot be made as this would give rise to a taxable benefit. Members of staff are welcome to use the Graduate Centre's facilities which include a Cafe Bar and Lounge, with wireless access to the University network. Located on the third floor of the Union building in Park Place, the Centre is open Monday to Saturday 08:00 to 24:00 and Sundays 12:00 - 24:00. Please note that postgraduates are given priority for meeting rooms, so these are not usually available to staff.
As a member of staff, you are able to use our 18 library sites, which are conveniently located close to the academic schools they support and offer a wide range of information resources, as well as access to photocopying and IT facilities.
The Occupational Safety, Health & Environment unit (OSHEU) is dedicated to providing a centre of excellence to promote the health and safety of staff, students and visitors to Cardiff University, and to create and maintain a safe place of work and a safe working environment through the dissemination of information, instruction, training and by regular auditing and monitoring.

A number of sport and exercise facilities, and a variety of fitness classes with reduced rates for staff, are available on the University campus, so whether you fancy circuit challenge, ballet fusion or yoga, there is something for everyone.
The University Fitness and Squash Centre is located on Park Place (contact 02920 876706). Reduced fees are offered to staff for induction sessions in the gym, as well as reduced fees for fitness assessments, programme design, personal training sessions, nutritional guidance and fitness consultation. Other sports facilities include the University Sports Centre at Talybont (contact 02920 874675) and the University Playing Fields, Llanrumney (contact 02920 777377). A Staff Counselling Service is available to offer support on issues such as anxiety, stress, depression, lack of confidence, relationship difficulties, panic attacks, sexuality difficulties, abuse, anger, bereavement, problems with drug or alcohol use, health problems, trauma following a difficult incident, work related stress and bullying/harassment. The Service also provides management consultations to support managers with any aspect of management they wish to explore such as concern about a member of staff, managing your own and your staff’s stress and approaching difficult conversations with staff.
The Service offers a wide range of psycho-educational workshops and can write bespoke workshops on request. The Service is discreet and confidential, and aims to assist with any difficulties that you may be facing in your life. The Staff Counselling Service has extended its services to include an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which offers all staff and their families’ expert advice, information and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including legal and debt information. This is provided via a help line, website and counselling off site, as well as telephone consultations and online resources for managers. You can access PPC Online here: username: cardiffuni. All staff are welcome to use all of the facilities in the Students’ Union, including the Tafarn bar, CF10 Coffee shop, Union shop, Union Games Room and the shops located in the building. Staff can also attend gigs taking place in the Students’ Union – tickets are available for sale in the Union building box office (contact 02920 781458) or online. Members of staff can also benefit from discounts in Blackwells Books, Cardiff Student Letting and the IT Shop - all located on the ground floor of the Students’ Union building on Park Place.
The University has a small amount of accommodation available for visiting academic/staff. These consist of 2 bedroom flats and 3 bedroom houses. The Residences Office also provides a list of private sector accommodation for visiting academic/staff. For more information please visit the website.
