School Selection Procedures - Radiography

School Selection Criteria

All applications are reviewed in order to ensure that applicants possess, or are working towards, the academic qualifications required for entry. In addition, applicants will need to demonstrate that they possess the personal attributes and qualities required of a therapeutic radiographer in order to be able to provide the necessary care and support for cancer service users. This will be achieved through the personal statement which will be scored according to the following predetermined criteria for shortlisting:

  • A knowledge of and commitment to the profession of therapeutic radiography;
  • A caring attitude towards people;
  • A willingness to accept responsibility;
  • Evidence of working as part of a team;
  • Evidence of a broad spectrum of interests and personal achievements.

Together with consideration of referee information, those applicants who achieve the highest shortlisting scores will be invited to interview (MMI’s).

Please note that no offers are made to applicants without an interview.

Please note: Applicants who are invited to the interview days and have disabilities or additional support needs are encouraged to indicate this in your response to the Admissions Team email: HCAREAdmissions@cardiff.ac.uk We will contact you to discuss your access requirements so that appropriate adjustments can be arranged.

Applications which have not met the required threshold score will not be invited to the Interview Day (MMIs) and will be informed by UCAS that their application has been unsuccessful.

Unsuccessful applicants who wish to obtain feedback should contact: admissions@cardiff.ac.uk

Following the Assessment and Interview stage each applicant is awarded a total application score. This is the sum of their assessment and interview scores.

Offers are made to candidates who have achieved the highest total application scores and who have provided a satisfactory statement of character.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their selection process via UCAS tracker; direct applicants by the university. Unsuccessful applicants who wish to obtain feedback should contact: admissions@cardiff.ac.uk

Selection Interview

The Multiple Mini Interview 14th December 2015 and 24th February 2016

The interview process is an opportunity to meet applicants in person and fully assess attributes such as personal qualities and communication skills that are not easily transferred from the personal statement. For the BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy and Oncology programme at Cardiff School of Healthcare Sciences, interviews are undertaken using the Multiple Mini Interview (MMIs) format.

MMIs are made up of a series of short, carefully timed interview stations which provide interviewers with information about applicants’ ability to think on their feet, appraise information, communicate information and ideas and demonstrate that they have thought about some of the issues relevant to the profession of therapeutic radiography. It is important to know that there are no right or wrong answers for the MMI stations; the interviews are not intended to test prior knowledge of radiotherapy.

There will be six stations in total and each station will last a maximum of 5 minutes.

School Values

The School of Healthcare Sciences expects, and looks to admit, students who will demonstrate exemplary standards of behaviour at all times and will show respect and courtesy towards service users, teaching and support staff of the School and to each other as students of the healthcare professions.

Offers

Offers are made using the total application score (from personal statement and MMIs). Applicants will be notified of the outcome of the selection process via UCAS. Please be aware that you may not receive a decision until all interviews are complete.

Use of Contextual Data
