School Selection Procedures - Occupational Therapy

All applications for a place on any of the Healthcare Sciences degree schemes must be made through the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) application service.

An admissions tutor assesses the application and makes selection decisions. In order to establish your potential to cope with the academic requirements of the programme, the initial assessment consists of prioritising applications based on meeting the minimum academic criteria and predicted grades.

Prior to interview, it would be advantageous to have visited a variety of occupational therapy settings in order to be able to discuss different aspects of the work of an occupational therapist.

No applicants will be given an offer without an interview.

School Selection Criteria

Applicants should show a friendly, outgoing personality, patience, tact, a real interest in people and in helping them to solve their own problems. Extra-curricular activities, work experience and interests will be taken into account during selection, as will the learning style preference of the applicant. Applicants should demonstrate a general understanding of the Occupational Therapy profession and also gain a broad knowledge of the breadth and diversity of occupational therapy through reading occupational therapy journals and by speaking with occupational therapists. Information can be obtained from the British Association/College of Occupational Therapists website which can be found at: www.cot.org.uk.
