This information will assist applicants in assessing whether they have the skills, attributes and qualifications which Cardiff School of Medicine has identified as being important if students are to succeed on its undergraduate programmes of study. It also summarises the process which the School uses for selecting students and making offers, so that applicants understand how the School considers their applications.
This policy document provides information on admissions requirements, selection policies and procedures for undergraduate medical courses leading to the MBBCh award in Cardiff University’s School of Medicine.
The School of Medicine receives over 2,700 applications for some 300 places on the five-year (A100) Medicine programme and over 250 applications for some 16 places on the six-year (A104) Foundation Medicine programme. Applications are welcomed from school leavers, graduates, and mature applicants, both from home and overseas. The competition for places is fierce and the selection process is rigorous.

A University Open Day is held in April each year and provides the opportunity to visit all academic schools in addition to the residences, the Students’ Union and sports facilities. Please see our Open Day webpage for further details. An Open DAy for Medicine only is held each summer.
