Admissions Criteria

This information will assist applicants in assessing whether they have the skills, attributes and qualifications which Cardiff School of Chemistry has identified as being important if students are to succeed on its undergraduate programmes of study. It also summarises the process which the School uses for selecting students and making offers, so that applicants understand how the School considers their applications.

We welcome applicants who have strong interests in Chemistry, developing their practical laboratory skills and utilising differing methods of spectroscopy to apply. Having a strong science background, we look to recruit students onto our BSc and MChem schemes who wish to pursue Chemistry training at degree level. We invite all applicants, who have the correct A-level combination and predicted grades, to attend a UCAS open day between the November to March period. These open days allow you to see the school, its facilities, chat with staff and students and discuss what varied and invaluable opportunities a degree in Chemistry from Cardiff University will afford you. All applicants will receive their offer via UCAS Track after attending one of our open days. We feel our open days are a good chance for you to see what life is like at the School of Chemistry by gaining a good all round experience of what courses we deliver, the staff who teach and other students who are currently on the course. We look forward to receiving your application.

Scope of the Criteria

All undergraduate Chemistry programmes.

Profile of Applications

The annual intake is 170-190 students, for which we receive approximately 800 applications.
