Business Resource Centre

The computing and library services of the University provide the books, journals, electronic resources and up to date computing facilities that will support your study and research. You will have access to well over a million books and journals and a high-speed computer network supplying a wide range of information resources and applications software.

You will receive a personal username and password to enable you to use the networked computers in the University. There is easy access to the World Wide Web and electronic mail as well as electronic information resources. Many courses utilise web-based teaching and interaction and the enhanced virtual learning environments you will use are always available over the network.

Early in your course you will be given an introduction to the services we offer. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are always available to give advice and to help with computing and information problems. You can read printed and web-based guides to help you explore the world of information. And you can attend workshops and seminars to enable you to make effective use of the resources available, from applications software to printed and electronic information sources.

Library and computing facilities are provided in over twenty libraries and computer rooms conveniently located close to academic schools. When you arrive you will be introduced to the library that serves your school or department. Each library houses books, journals and other printed materials as well as networked computers. You will easily find information to complete assignments using Voyager, the web-based library catalogue. Voyager integrates the printed and digital library collections into a single resource. It can be accessed from any computer connected to the University network, from computers within the libraries and over the web. You can search for books and journals and link to a wide range of electronic resources including databases and full-text journal and newspaper articles. Using Voyager you can also check your library borrowings, renew the periods of loan and reserve items which are not immediately available.
