Welsh Language Applicants

Cardiff University’s education is primarily in English, but provision through the medium of Welsh is being developed in some areas. Students studying eligible courses wishing to pursue part of their degree through the medium of Welsh may be interested in scholarships affiliated to the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. For more information about these scholarships please click here.

We recognise that Welsh speakers may feel more comfortable with a Welsh speaking personal tutor. Provided there are Welsh speaking members of staff in your subject area, every effort will be made to allocate a Welsh speaker to you. If you wish, you can also submit assessed work and take examinations through the medium of Welsh, regardless of the language of tuition of the programme. (This may not be possible in certain clinical areas.)

We also know that many of our students prefer to live in Welsh-speaking communities whilst at university. Consequently, some of our accommodation is reserved for Welsh speaking students and those who are learning Welsh. Flats in Senghennydd Court - accommodation very near to the city centre - have been allocated to Welsh speakers and other flats situated in Talybont have a Welsh atmosphere, and are popular amongst students. If you would prefer to live in a Welsh speaking flat, please note this on your accommodation application.
