General

Essential GCSEs

A minimum of 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above. These must include English or Welsh Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science.

In certain circumstances Key Skills level 2 in Communication and Application of number may be accepted in lieu of English/Welsh and Mathematics.

Applications will only be considered from those applicants that have already obtained these qualifications, PLUS one of the following:

A-level

240 UCAS points. This must include a minimum of two grade C A-level awards.  General Studies and Key Skills will not be included.

AS-level

Two AS subjects may be considered in lieu of a third A-level.

Welsh Baccalaureate

A minimum of 240 UCAS tariff points to include a pass in the core subjects and 2 A-level passes at grade C or above.

Scottish Higher

BCCC Plus credit standard grades in English Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science.

IRL

BBCCCC at Higher Level to include a C in English Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science. Four other subjects are also required at Ordinary Level. Each case is considered individually.

IB

Obtain Diploma with an overall score of 28 points. English Language, Mathematics and a Physical Science must be offered at Subsidiary or GCSE Level, if not at Higher Level.

EB

Obtain Diploma with an overall score of 6.6 (66%).

BTEC

The National Diploma in Health Studies should be passed with a minimum of MMM as the final award. BTEC in Early Years should be passed with DMM as the final award. Other relevant BTEC national diplomas may be considered and would require identical grades.

CACHE Diploma

A minimum of 240 UCAS points. This must include a minimum of grade C in theory and C in the practical assessment.

Applicants offering alternative/vocational qualifications

Evidence of recent successful study at an appropriate level is required. Recent is within the last three years. Appropriate level is A-Level or equivalent. 

Access course students must offer a credit-based nursing or health-based course validated by The Open College Network. This should be passed with a minimum of 6 distinctions, 33 merits and 6 passes.

OUK101
This should be passed with the award of 60 level 1 credits. In addition, students must meet the Maths, English Language and Science GCSE requirements. 

International Students

Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of 7.0 with not less than 7.0 in listening and reading and not less than 7.0 in writing and speaking. (Please note: this applies to overseas students who have pre-arranged application arrangements.)

Interviewing Policy

All applications are short listed. Successful applicants at this stage will be interviewed.

Available Places

Currently, there are two intakes a year. One in September and the other in February / March for the Bachelor of Nursing (Hons) programme, with approximately 160 places in each intake. Please note: September intake only for The Bachelor of Midwifery (Hons), with approximately 35 places in each intake.

Please note: deferred entry is not available for BMid.
