Paying for Residences
This information applies to all residences except Allensbank House. Details about paying for residences at Allensbank House will be included in the information sent to you by the Manager at Allensbank House once you have been allocated a place in this residence.
Payment Methods
All fees for residences, as well as most of the associated charges such as Parking Permit and Evening Meal Option, are payable by one of the following methods.
- Credit/Debit card in full in advance or on arrival
- Direct Debit from a UK Bank Account (payable in 3 instalments)
The only exceptions to these payment methods are:
Sponsored Students
- If your Residences Fees will be paid directly to us by your Sponsor, please forward a copy of your Affidavit letter confirming your sponsored status to the CSERV Finance Office: residencesfinance@cardiff.ac.uk
- If you will be in receipt of a monthly stipend from a Sponsor and need to set up a payment plan, please contact the CSERV Finance Office to arrange this. Please note you will need to provide confirmation of your Sponsorship.
NHS Bursary/Monthly Stipend
- If you will be in receipt of a monthly stipend from the NHS Bursary, you can pay your residences fees by a monthly payment plan. If you are studying Nursing, we will confirm with the School of Nursing that you are in receipt of a NHS Bursary. If you will be receiving an NHS Bursary but are not studying Nursing please forward confirmation of your bursary to the CSERV Finance Office: residencesfinance@cardiff.ac.uk
Please refer to the Paying for Residences Guidelines in the Arrival Information for further information.
Direct Debit Mandate
Unless you pay your residences fees in full or one of the payment exceptions mentioned above applies to you, your residences fees are payable by Direct Debit from a UK Bank Account in 3 instalments.
When you accept your Residences Agreement online you will be asked to complete your Direct Debit information. If you are still setting up your Student UK Bank Account, you should select the following payment method – Direct Debit by student (no UK Bank Account yet). You will be required to complete a paper Direct Debit Mandate as soon as you have a UK Bank Account. If your residences fees will be paid out of a bank account in someone else’s name, then you will be unable to complete your Direct Debit information online and you will need to complete a paper Direct Debit Mandate. Further information will be provided at the time you accept your online Residences Agreement.
Please note: this Direct Debit covers residences fees and associated charges only. You will need to complete a separate mandate for your tuition fees.
Payment Advice
A couple of weeks before each payment date you will be sent a Payment Advice advising you of the date and the amount that will be taken by Direct Debit for that instalment. This enables you to ensure there are sufficient funds in the account.
Payment Dates
The payment dates for the 2012/2013 session are:
- Wednesday 24 October 2012
- Wednesday 23 January 2013
- Wednesday 24 April 2013
In order to keep residences fees as low as possible, we require students to pay promptly. If you pay late, you lose your entitlement to pay the fees at the rate quoted on your Residences Agreement and incur an initial 5% charge. If the payment remains outstanding after 15 days, you will incur a further 5% charge on the balance outstanding.
Banks/Building Society Accounts
If you will be paying your fees by Direct Debit and you do not have a UK Bank or Building Society account, then you will need to open one as soon as it is possible for you to do so. Several of the major banks have branches which are easily accessible on the main campus including the University Students' Union Building. Alternatively, you may be able to open an account online before you come to Cardiff. In order to open a bank account you may need to provide proof of address. Further details of banks in Cardiff with Student Advisors can be found in the Arrival Information.
Student Loan
For most students, the Student Loan should be available by the Direct Debit dates.
If you anticipate difficulty paying your residences fees, for example, as a result of the late arrival of your Student Loan or because you receive a monthly NHS Bursary, please contact the CSERV Finance Office as soon as you are aware of this.
