Choosing Residences

The Residences Office aims to provide you with a choice of residences, allowing you to prioritise the type of residence which reflects your preferred lifestyle and budget. There are a number of factors which you should think about before prioritising your residence, including:

  • is it self-catered or are meals provided
  • the availability of ensuite shower/toilet facilities
  • the residences fee
  • the location of the residence in relation to your academic building, the city centre, or the particular social or sports facilities in which you are interested
  • access to communal facilities, such as a Social Centre or Bar
  • and for some students, especially those from overseas, the availability of residences during the summer vacation (all of the residences allow you to stay during Christmas and Easter vacations)

You may find the Residences Overview and Summary of Fees useful when comparing the various residences.

When you complete your online application you will be asked to give a priority order for the residences available to you. We take your preferences into account when allocating you a room and aim to offer you one of your higher preferences, however, it is not always possible to do so. If one of your preferred residences is not available, we will make you what we consider a suitable alternative offer.

Please note that it is the policy of the Residences Office to allocate students to mixed flats in terms of gender and nationality/race, including study bedrooms on the ground floor. If you would like to request that you be allocated a male or female only flat, you can note this on your online application.
