Postgraduate Taught Scholarships £500,000 worth of scholarships
Cardiff University has subscribed to "The Alternative Guide to Postgraduate Funding 2013-14". This guide details how to find and apply for alternative sources of funding - especially charities - which make awards to current and prospective taught and research postgraduate students.
Charities are an underrated funding resource, and often make awards to students of any subject and any nationality. Securing funding also boosts your CV, particularly if you are considering an academic career.
The Guide has been written by two postgraduate students who between them have won over £45,000 from 55 different charity awards. It contains examples of model personal and financial statements, and over 300 links to voluntary sector funding sources. The Alternative Guide is independently published by GradFunding.
Dorottya Cserzo, PhD student in Language and Communication from Hungary, has successfully used the guide and so far has gained funding from two external sources, the Gen Foundation and the Sidney Perry Foundation.
