University Graduate College Programme

The University Graduate College Programme (UGCP), formerly the Research Students' Skills Development Programme (RSSDP), is designed to offer you opportunities to develop the skills you need to complete your research degree on time and to enhance your employability. It incorporates generic skills and discipline specific skills, and is organised by the University Graduate College.
Within the programme, the University Graduate College offers a series of workshops in transferable skills, designed to assist you both in the early stages of your research career and as you are finishing your degree. Workshops in the areas of IT Skills, Communication Skills, the Research Environment, Career Management and Personal Skills, have been designed to meet some of the training requirements of the Research Councils and are part of an overall research training programme at the University.
Each individual will have different training needs, some of which will be met in the academic School and some by the University Graduate College. Researchers can easily find courses relevant to them, as the offerings are integrated into a single brochure and accessed by a single web booking system. The “Starting Out” induction event, which runs in October, January, April and July, introduces researchers to the programme.
All the events in the programme are open to Cardiff University postgraduate researchers (MPhil, PhD, MD, MCh, and professional doctorates) at no charge to them.
