Practical Information

Travel Arrangements

The University campus is situated in the heart of Cardiff's attractive civic centre, Cathays Park. In common with most city centres it can be difficult to park and visitors are encouraged to consider using public transport.

By Rail or Coach

Visitors should travel to Cardiff Central Station (Rail and Coach Stations are adjacent to one another). The Cathays Park Campus is a 20 minute walk from the Central Station. Alternatively, some local rail services from Cardiff Central call at Cathays Station, which is within the University's Cathays Park Campus.

Cardiff bus operates Cardiff's bus network and provides frequent bus services to the campus. Most conveniently, routes 27, 53 and 85 stop in front of the Main Building.

You can use Traveline Cymru to plan your journey with public transport within Wales.

By Air

Several inter-regional and international air services operate from Cardiff Wales Airport.  The airport is located approximately 12 miles from the city centre.  Visitors arriving here should take the X90 bus to Cardiff Central Station or a free bus to Rhoose Cardiff Airport Railway Station.  All rail services from Rhoose travel to Cardiff Central Station, and many also travel to Cathays Station.

By Road

Get door-to-door directions to Cardiff University's Main Building.

From the East:

Take the M4 and exit at junction 29. Follow the A48M, pass the Holiday Inn Express and Moat House Hotels on your right, and exit at the junction marked A470.  Using the middle lane, follow the slip-road to the roundabout and take the second exit, signposted City Centre. From this point onwards, follow signs for the University.

From the West:

Take the M4 and exit at junction 32. Follow the A470 into the city centre, and follow signs for the University.

Parking

Car parking within the University is very limited, and for this reason, reserved for visitors who have mobility difficulties (please get in touch with us at postgradenquiries@cardiff.ac.uk to arrange for these). There are a number of public car parks within easy walking distance of the University - those in Dumfries Place (accessed via St Andrew's Place) and North Road may be the most convenient. Additionally, an on-street pay and display parking system operates in the streets surrounding the University campus. This typically costs around £4 for three hours. Payment is by coin or debit/credit card.  Parking in the North Road car park is £5 per day (charges for city centre multi-storey car parks vary considerably, up to £12 per day).

There are also Park and Ride Services to the city centre which is just a short walk from the Cathays Campus. This service costs just £3.
