Money and Shopping
Opening a Bank Account
You can open a bank account at any of the following major banks:
The Post Office; Barclays Bank; Co-operative Bank; Lloyds TSB Bank; HSBC Bank; National Westminster Bank; Royal Bank of Scotland; Halifax.
Many of these banks make attractive introductory offers to new customers, and representatives from the banks are usually available for consultation and advice in the Students' Union during the first week of term.
Shopping
There are many major supermarkets within easy walking distance and/or well serviced by buses in the city, to allow you to stock up your cupboards. These include:
Sainsburys: Colchester Avenue, Roath; Central, Queen Street.
Tesco : Albany Road, Roath; 225 Cowbridge Road East; St. Mellons Shopping Centre; Culverhouse Cross; Western Avenue (by the Tal-y-Bont hall of residence).
Safeway: Ty Glas Rd, Llanishen; Cowbridge Rd West Ely.
Asda: Longwood Drive, Coryton.
Co-op: Crwys Road, Cathays.
For all your other retail needs, Cardiff really is a city to be explored and enjoyed. Major retail stores such as H&M, David Morgans, and Marks and Spencers can be found in the city centre. Independent stores can be perused in the many arcades down St. Mary’s Street, and Canton and Albany Road are great locations for those searching out bargains in the city’s many charity shops.
