After having studied through distance-learning for a few years I was keen to return to a conventional university with a more tangible student community. Cardiff was one of only a handful of universities to offer a course in my specialism, so it immediately stood out for its expertise. After I have completed my PhD I hope to continue in research and am confident that my training at Cardiff will put me in a good position to find employment

The university takes its pastoral role very seriously and I have always felt very well supported in terms of resources, information and personal contact. My home school was very supportive throughout the funding application process, holding information sessions and workshops to deal with the paperwork.

Cardiff has all the perks of being a capital city without feeling overwhelmingly large or hectic. There are many quiet, safe areas in which to live and the city has lots of parks and green space, so there’s always somewhere to go and relax. Cathays campus is also in a brilliant location; it’s only a five minute walk into town yet feels completely separate from it and has its own park.

I have enjoyed living in a beautiful city, meeting diverse and interesting people and have been challenged to work at the cutting edge of my field of research.
