Location & transport

Cardiff Bay Aerial 2 - 500x280

Cardiff is located on the coast of South Wales, approximately 145 miles west of London (two hours by train).

Cardiff has excellent transport links (ranked 1st in the UK for the most transport friendly city) and makes a great base to explore the rest of the UK and Europe.

Both Cardiff and Bristol Airports have many direct flights to UK and European cities on budget carriers and London airports are easily accessible by both bus and train.

Cardiff doesn't have neighbourhoods in the American sense, but there are some distinctive areas of the city.

The two which you will become most familiar with are Cathays and Roath. Cathays is next to the University and is where the majority of students not in halls reside. Roath is a little further from the University and has a greater mix of students and locals, as well as a more ethnic and artistic feel.

Both are within walking distance to the city centre.
