TOEFL

Cardiff University usually accepts a TOEFL score of a minimum of between 550 - 600 (paper) and 213 - 250 (computer). Some courses may require a higher score.

The Test in English as Foreign Language (TOEFL) is administered by the Educational Testing Service Ltd. (ETS) It is designed to assess a student's ability to understand North American English, and is used as an entry requirement for non-native English speakers in US and Canadian Universities. In light of this, the exam format is heavily weighted to multiple choice questions, suiting the American examining system. TOEFL does not include a compulsory written or speaking assessment.

The exam can be taken in regional testing centres in Swanage, London and Glasgow.

How is the test scored?

ETS are replacing the paper-based test, with a computer test. This has resulted in two sets of TOEFL scores. The paper test scores range from 310-677. The computer based scores range from 0-300.
