Professor Fred Williams
Fred Williams has had close links with China since 1987, having been a professor in Cardiff since 1975. Of his 316 publications, 127 have had co-authors from Chinese universities, 112 of these being in International Journals. Professor Williams has visited the mainland of China 18 times, for a total of 377 days. He has also spent over three yours leave of absence from Cardiff as a Chair Professor at City University of Hong Kong.
Since 1993, Professor Williams has been Founder and Chairman of The Cardiff Advanced Chinese Engineering Centre, which has sponsored over 20 extended visits of Chinese full professors to Cardiff. His joint papers with Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences include 20 with Professor Zhong Wanxie of Dalian University of Technology and he has 14 as part of continuing research (also involving David Kennedy of Cardiff) with Professor Yuan Si, Dean of Civil Engineering of Tsinghua University and one of the approximately 170 members of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China on which he is an independent member, i.e. not a member of any political party.
Fred Williams’ highly productive Department level agreements with Tsinghua University, Dalian University of Technology and Shanghai Jiao Tong University have all led to university level agreements being signed with Cardiff.
