Whether you need to crunch gigabytes of research data with our supercomputer or simply find the nearest free PC, we're here to help.

  • 25 computer rooms aross both campuses
  • Wi-fi access in many buildings including all residences (from September 2012)
  • The latest versions of common software on all networked computers (or anywhere in the world via remote access)
  • Cardiff University mobile app (for Android, Blackberry and iOS) including "Find a free PC" tool and "Ask a librarian" live chat

We've introduced a raft of energy-saving initiatives to reduce the impact of our IT systems on the environment:

  • lecture handouts and slides are posted online rather than printed
  • flat-screen monitors across campus (using only 46% of the energy of standard monitors)
  • automatic power-down if computers are not switched off
  • at least 98.5% of old equipment is reused or recycled
  • we actively purchase greener equipment (to EPEAT and Energy Star standards)
  • our ARCCA supercomputer and datacentre have received several environmental award commendations and nominations
