Student Projects

Thinking Outside Box Image

Do you have a nagging problem that you’d like a fresh perspective on? Or maybe have a project that you would like to undertake but just don't have the time to do it? A student project/placement is the perfect alternative solution to these challenges.

Live student or graduate business projects/placements provide a valuable resource to organisations, whilst giving students the opportunity to learn about how businesses really work.

Benefits to businesses include:

•   Cost effective resources
•   A choice of high quality students and graduates
•   Access to value adding knowledge and skills

Three main routes for graduate or student placements/projects:

  •   Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP)
  •   GO Wales
  •   Academic Schools

Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP)

A KTP is a three way partnership between an organisation, a graduate and Cardiff University. Part funded by Government, the scheme provides access to academic skills and expertise to businesses who wish to innovate, expand or improve their performance. Benefits include increased profitability, performance, competitive advantage, process enhancement and reduction in costs.

The partnership involves one or more recently qualified persons (Associates) to facilitate this transfer of skills and expertise, who work(s) within your organisation on a project central to your needs and is jointly supervised by company personnel and a senior academic.

An NCUB report summaries the Key Attributes of Successful Knowledge Transfer Partnerships, which was recently commissioned by the Technology Strategy Board and  Research Councils UK.

Cardiff has an impressive portfolio of successful KTP projects, including an award winning KTP with Ford Motor Company
