Nationality, Immigration and Asylum Act 2002

In offering an appointment it is a requirement of UK legislation that only those legally entitled to live and work in the UK are offered employment.  Checks are made on all new potential employees.  If at any time it is found that an employee does not have current and valid permission to be in the UK or that the permission you have excludes you from taking this specific job this contract will be invalid or if it is already in force it will be terminated. 

Please provide documentary evidence that you have permission to work in the UK on or before your first day of work.  You could provide, for example, either a British passport, or a passport, or a National Identity Card from an EEA country or Switzerland; or alternatively a document showing your permanent UK National Insurance Number and your full UK birth certificate, which includes the names of the holder's parents - if the names on the two documents do not match, then another document is required to explain this, for example, a marriage certificate; or alternatively you could provide a work permit and your passport.

This legislation covers all employees, full time, part time, casual employees and post graduate student demonstrators.

The University, as an employer, must check and record specified documents which relate to the individual concerned prior to the commencement of a contract of employment.

The Salaries Section will only be authorised by Human Resources to pay an employee who has satisfied the Nationality, Asylum and Immigration Act 2002.

Any employee who has still not provided A & I documentation after the Salaries Cut Off date even though requested by Human Resources, should contact the Salaries Section as a matter of urgency to discuss the possibility of a delay in their salary/wage payment.
