Gendered Research Opportunities
'Claire, Sarah and their colleagues are to be congratulated on taking the initiative to establish GRO. As an Honorary Professor within the department I can attest that an initiative of this sort is overdue. Four decades of research, scholarship and publication in all areas of gender and political science is readily available and should be a standard part of every curriculum. A full understanding of political ideas and political life depends upon it. I look forward to the future development of the initiatives in teaching and research that GRO embodies and to seeing positive moves towards gender parity in the department'.
Professor Carole Pateman
Gendered Research Opportunities is a new research unit based in the politics department, which aims to provide students with the chance to explore the key issues surrounding gender (in)equality.
We believe that a nuanced understanding of politics, both local and global, must entail an appreciation of the contribution, challenges and lived experiences of women and other marginalised groups.
Through conferences, reading groups, social events, and an online network, seemingly simple themes like violence and invisibility, will be unpacked to demonstrate how implicit bias and preconceived ideas have created and consolidated barriers which negatively impact the whole of our society.
Join us to explore the impact of gender on your ideas, your studies and your world.
