School Research Ethics Committee
The School Research Ethics Committee was established to consider the ethical implications of any research undertaken in the School involving human research participants, material or data.
Terms of reference
- to consider non-clinical research proposals (from both the School’s staff and its students) involving human participants, human material or human data
- to either give written approval for such proposals in the form of minutes or provide written information as to why approval has not been given
- to consider revised submissions
- discuss with the researcher any complaints referred to the Committee by the School Ethics Officer
- to refer to the University Research Ethics Committee cases which cannot be satisfactorily resolved or about which there is uncertainty
- to operate procedures no less rigorous than those recommended or required by relevant professional bodies or other organisations in the subject domain (e.g. sponsoring bodies)
- to develop guidelines for the handling of student projects

Forthcoming meetings
The School Research Ethics Committee is scheduled to meet on the following dates this academic year (2012-13)

- Wednesday 6 March 2013
- Wednesday 5 June 2013
Applications need to be received by Jenny Hulin at least 1 week before the meeting is due to take place in order to be considered. In exceptional circumstances Chair’s action will be sought in between meetings.
