Montserrat Lunati has been offered the prestigious Joan Coromines Visiting Chair in Catalan Studies in the University of Chicago for the Autumn Semester 2012-13.

The Chair is named in honour of the eminent philologist and hispanomedievalist, Joan Coromines and also to rethink the boundaries of the discipline and expand its scope into new areas that are essential to the understanding of the past, present and future of our engagement with language and culture. Previous holders of the Chair have included Carme Riera and Alfred Bosch.

Catalan Studies is part of the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures which offers programs in French, Italian, and Spanish literatures as well as Renaissance and Early Modern Studies. These programs include the study of literary history, established and current critical methodologies, literary theory and analysis, Romance philology, the sociology of literature, literature and history, cultural studies, films, and foreign language acquisition and pedagogy.
