Essay competition winner Catherine Hopkins
18th October 2013
Gendered Research Opportunities (GRO) held an essay competition for all politics undergraduate students over the summer and challenged them to answer the question 'Where are the Women'. The question is associated with liberal feminist theory and it seeks to address why so few women are able to exercise a significant influence over politics and political society. The essay competition invited students to interpret this question in light of some of the materials they had studied and the experiences they have had throughout their time as a Politics students at Cardiff University.
At their inaugural conference in October, GRO were pleased to announce the winner of the competition as Catherine Hopkins. Catherine's essay which tackled the issue of under-representation of women in political theory and political science, as well as potential solutions to this presented through inter-disciplinarity, was an outstanding piece of work.
It was honoured by Claire Clancey, Chief Executive and Clerk of the Welsh Assembly, who presented Catherine with her award.
