Europe Minister visits the University

Europe Minister The Rt Hon David Lidington

The Rt Hon David Lidington,

Charlotte Roberts and

Martin M Jones

18/02/2011

Hosted by the Cardiff School of European Languages, Translation and Politics, and part of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s EU Careers Month, the Minister provided students with an insight into why the UK Government is strongly encouraging British students and professionals to apply. He was joined by Secretary of State for Wales Cheryl Gillan, and two university alumni who are currently working in Brussels.

The Minister met with current and former students of the School. Rebecca Black who graduated with a First in Italian and French said: Having the chance to attend a talk about EU careers from those with first hand experience was very interesting and informative. I felt that all of the questions that I may have had about working for the EU and living in Brussels were addressed and answered truthfully. Having the opportunity to meet the Minister for Europe and ask him questions was something that I never thought I would be able to do and was very grateful for the time he took out of his schedule to talk to us. I have always been interested in working for the EU as I believe it is a great institution and offers many great opportunities for language graduates and after the talk and the meeting with the minister, I am even more convinced that a career in the EU is something that I would really like to pursue.
